![]() ![]() Growing out of the book Soul of a People and the award-winning documentary film of the same title, the series is produced with grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities and other generous funders. ![]() ![]() The series draws on archival audio and conversations with writers and historians including Amy Bloom, Douglas Brinkley, Maryemma Graham, Dagoberto Gilb, Mary Gordon, James McBride, Loretta Metoxen, Kiki Petrosino, and more, as well as original interviews with FWP alums Stetson Kennedy and Studs Terkel. Facing people’s realities of inequality, racism and poverty, they found new mediums for telling those stories: travel guidebooks (the WPA guides), oral histories, audio recordings, and epic murals. These creators had a mandate to paint a portrait of America, warts and all, during a crisis. The series traces a journey through communities across America, through the lens of workers on the Federal Writers’ Project and other New Deal arts programs. The People’s Recorder is a new podcast series that connects audiences with the tumult and intimate stories of New Deal writers, artists and the people who inspired them in the 1930s. ![]()

![]() Using the estimated age of each animal, lifetime radiation doses ranged from <0.1 mGy to 700 mGy. ![]() Total dose rates to wild boar ranged from 0.02 to 36 μGy h −1, which was primarily attributed to external radiation exposure, and dose rates to the maximally exposed animals were above the generic no-effects benchmark of 10 μGy h −1. Internal Cs activity concentrations in boar remained high in areas near the power plant with the highest concentration of 54 kBq kg −1 measured in 2019. Here, radiation exposure was evaluated in 307 wild boar inhabiting radioactively contaminated areas (50–8000 kBq m −2) in Fukushima Prefecture from 2016 to 2019, and genetic markers were examined to assess possible germline mutations caused by chronic radiation exposures to several generations of wild boar. Estimating radiation exposure to wildlife is important to understand possible long-term impacts. Such studies have generally demonstrated a declining trend in measured radiocesium body burdens in wildlife. ![]() ![]() Genetic effects and radioactive contamination of large mammals, including wild boar ( Sus scrofa), have been studied in Japan because of dispersal of radionuclides from the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant in 2011. ![]() ![]() ![]() But as they get to know one another, Eliza feels increasingly trapped by a horrifying realization-she just might be falling for the face of the patriarchy himself. ![]() When Eliza’s frustration spills out in a viral essay, she finds herself inspiring a feminist movement she never meant to start, caught between those who believe she’s a gender equality champion and others who think she’s simply crying misogyny.Īmid this growing tension, the school asks Eliza and Len to work side by side to demonstrate civility.
